Storm Haven Vineyard is the 107 acre home and heart of Synchromesh. With large elevation changes and varying geology, we are able to explore very different expressions of Riesling from each block. Farmed without synthetics or chemicals and following a holistic approach, we strive to grow our vines within the existing ecosystem rather than manipulating it. All this is supported by a 70 sanctuary to protect the sensitive habitat that calls our property home.
The Storm Haven label represents the pinnacle of wines from this property in a given year. Gooseberry, honeysuckle white peach and apricot aromatics lead into a textured, intense fruit and savoury palate with very complex acid structure. The finish never seems to fade. Delicious now, this wine will remain fresh and evolve for decades. After many years of experimenting, this my first fully dry Riesling. I made this an hommage to the great and rare GG Rieslings (click this for info on the GGs). While the style of wines I craft will always be about the delicacy, the balance and the complexity of the grape, this is a fun opportunity to bask in the power and hedonistic side of Riesling as well. Only 44 cases made.
'This is the first release of the Storm Haven wines for Synchromesh, coming off their home site. This spectacular Dry Riesling could be considered the GG of Alan's exemplary range, and is the result of 10 years of experimentation on the site. This Dry combined both press fractions as they were both proving quite complexed, with the blend whole cluster cold soaked for 9 hours prior to being gently pressed off into puncheon with the gross lees until the following July, when it was racked and bottled. A dry rarity from Alan, this streams with dry lime pith, subtle apricot, green apple, herbal Okanagan scrub, and a grippy texture that draws this to a lengthy white pepper finish. Hauntingly different. 12.3%, pH 3.1, 7.3 TA, 2.81g/L RS. 92 points' - Treve Ring, Gismondi on Wine Aug 27, 2020
