In 2016 at 7 years of vine age, we felt that the Pinot Noir vines at Storm Haven had finally come of age. With beautiful balanced fruit we fermented as whole cluster and moved into 80% new oak for a 10 month rest. When using new oak in whole cluster fermented red wines, the actual flavour and aromatics from the barrel are minimally imparted into the wine, leaving just the textural impact of integrating the substantial stem tannin. We were very pleased with all barrels from the 2016 vintage and are proud to present our first Black Label Pinot Noir from Storm Haven. This is a wine to stand shoulder to shoulder with our best Riesling.
100% whole bunch fermented this wine manages to extract the qualities of this site in a very structured and complex Pinot Noir that is somehow still elegant and fresh.
